Inspired by artist Robert Irwin’s Scrims installation, which used sheer fabric to precisely define space while maintaining openness, founder Luke Siegel saw an opportunity to bring those same principles into everyday living.Luke was working from 280 Design studio in New York City’s East Village. Surrounded by creatives, Luke designed furniture, where curious passersby often peeked through the windows.Drawing inspiration from Irwin’s work, he crafted a privacy screen using a frosted shower curtain stretched within a thin plywood frame. The result was both functional and artistic—a solution that preserved natural light while creating a sense of privacy.Not long after Luke hung up his privacy solution, someone walked by, loved the design, and asked if Luke could make one for their studio. The first Raydoor was officially ordered.In 2009, Raydoor was awarded its first patent for its interior space dividing system.
